What you may not be seeing is that you also have many rules and very high standards. In other words, the other party might consider you to be a control freak too - even though you only believe you are doing things in the right way. If you are the first to offer a compromise, you may find that the other party will do the same. Pretty soon, you can reach an agreement that will work for everyone.
